Booking & Appointment FAQs
Everything you need to know about our adult primary care practice, appointment lengths, insurance, and onboarding.
Are you accepting new patients?
Yes! New Hope Primary Care is actively welcoming new adult patients (ages 18 and older). You can schedule directly online via our AthenaHealth portal or call our 24/7 AI-staffed assistant at (301) 569-2129.
What age range do you treat?
We specialize exclusively in adult internal medicine, providing comprehensive longitudinal primary care for adults ages 18 and older.
How long are typical appointments?
We guarantee dedicated, unhurried time with your physician: 40 minutes for all new patient consultations and annual wellness exams, and 20 minutes for routine follow-ups (and often longer as clinically needed).
What insurances do you accept?
We participate with leading commercial carriers, traditional Medicare Part B, and Maryland State Medicaid (Fee-for-Service). We also provide transparent self-pay pricing pegged to 250% of Medicare allowable rates. You can view our verified list on our Accepted Insurances page.
How do prescription refills and routine blood work work?
You can request refills 24/7 through your AthenaHealth patient portal or by calling our AI phone assistant. For blood work and imaging, we place direct electronic orders to nearby accredited partners like Quest Diagnostics and LabCorp, which process under your standard laboratory insurance benefits.
What if I experience an after-hours medical emergency?
If you are experiencing a life-threatening medical emergency, please call 911 or visit the nearest emergency room immediately. For non-emergent scheduling, refill requests, or practice messages, our 24/7 AI phone line and Athena portal are always active.
How are specialist referrals and outside records handled?
We partner with you to identify in-network specialists across Howard County and regional medical centers. We also make your consolidated medical record summary available to any provider you request—including mental health therapists, nutritionists, physical therapists, and specialists—so your entire team stays aligned.
Are you a concierge or direct primary care (DPC) practice?
No. We are not a direct primary care or concierge practice, and we never charge membership fees or retainers. We accept standard insurance because we firmly believe everyone is entitled to relationship-centered healthcare that treats them as a whole person. Please see our Accepted Insurances directory for full participation details.
Can I see you if I already have another primary care provider (PCP)?
We are primary care providers. Some insurance plans require you to designate a single Primary Care Provider (PCP) on file with your insurer, while other patients may require more than one primary care relationship (such as seasonal travelers / snowbirds, specific women's health needs, or split geographic locations). We strongly encourage you to call the Member Services number on the back of your insurance card to verify your plan's specific 'PCP Designation' and out-of-network rules.
